We have 100 employees based at our head office in Leeds and it’s our responsibility to help everyone reach their full potential and provide rewards and benefits that help sustain a good work/life balance. As part of this we have a proactive Social Committee who meet regularly to ensure that there are lots of ‘after hour’ activities for employees to get involved in.
All our employees, regardless of their role in SI, take part in the same core skills surgical training exercises as surgeons, allowing them to truly immerse themselves in the role of the end user. This induction course is carried out by me personally and I believe it is the only way everyone can fully understand what we do and how our instruments are making a difference around the world.
We have chosen to bring manufacturing home to the UK; a strategic move which has enabled us to bring the design and manufacture of all our products in-house, under one roof and to triple our workforce in just a few years. We now have vast design and manufacturing departments and I’m pleased to say some of the country’s most innovative and creative minds. As the whole process is completed under one roof, everyone gets the opportunity to be part of the final product and see it go out of the door, into the surgeon’s hands.
Nurturing young talent is also a key priority for us and we run a proactive apprenticeship scheme across the organisation. Each year we will be increasing the number of apprentices we employ as we play our part in helping towards combating the skills shortage throughout the manufacturing industry."

We have standard 20 days holiday per annum plus bank holidays, with additional 3 days holiday for Christmas shutdown. After 5 years’ service employees accrue additional holiday up to a maximum of 25 days.
Death in Service
Death in Service benefit is given to all employees from their first day’s service. Similar to a life assurance policy, the benefit will pay a lump sum of 4 times the employee’s salary to a beneficiary or beneficiaries nominated by the employee in the event of their death.
SI has a group Personal Pension Plan which employees are eligible to join after 3 months' service with the company. Employees must contribute a minimum of 3% with the company paying 5%.
With childcare vouchers you can take advantage of your statutory entitlement to use up to £243 per month of salary tax and National Insurance free to pay towards your childcare costs. We use Kids Unlimited to administer our childcare voucher scheme.
EMI Share Scheme
Under the EMI Share Scheme employees can be granted options to acquire a certain amount of shares in Surgical Innovations. The shares can then be sold after 3 years with any monies made over the initial purchase price going to the employee.
Cycle to Work
With this scheme SI will purchase a bike and any accessories you require (up to £1000) and then rent it back over a period of 12 months to enable you to cycle to work.
- Rental fee comes out of your pre-taxed salary so you don’t pay any tax on the bike and will actually pay less tax overall
- You can choose any bike – including electric, folding and other specialist bikes
- Accessories for the bike can include anything from bike locks, safety gear and bike repair kits to panniers
